3rd Quarter Units
Parachute
1st and 2nd graders participate in the parachute unit. This is a really fun unit for them. There is a lot of teamwork activities while using the parachute and an excellent workout for the upper body. We incorporate cardiovascular activities throughout the week while working with the parachute. This is one of the students favorite units of the year.
Bowling
3rd and 4th graders participate in the bowling unit. The students will not only learn the rules of bowling, but how to manually score as well. The students really enjoy this unit because they can apply the skills learned at a real bowling alley.
Circulatory System
The students from all grade levels will learn about the circulatory system. They will learn about the heart, blood, and blood vessels in our bodies and how they work. Students in 1st and 2nd grade need to complete a homework assignment and 3rd and 4th grade students will take a test on the information learned.
Jump Rope
All grade levels participate in the jump rope unit, including Kindergarten! Students will learn how to jump rope in long ropes while also helping twirl the rope. We will also be using individual ropes to master jump roping by ourselves. Jumping rope is an excellent cardiovascular workout, so we talk about the heart a lot in this unit as well. The 3rd and 4th graders will help twirl the ropes for the Kindergarten students on special days to get them ready for Jump Rope for Heart. We end the unit with our Jump Rope for Heart event!!!
Cupstacking
The students in grades 1st-4th will participate in a cupstacking unit. The students will learn special patterns to stack cups and work on hand eye coordination. Cupstacking also works on bi-lateral coordination, so the students are working both sides of their brain. We will have a cupstacking tournament on March 13th in the gym to show off our skills learned. Come out for a fun night!
Dance
We will end the 3rd quarter with our dance unit. 1st grade will learn party dances and some dances that will be new. 2nd grade will focus on square dance. 3rd grade will be doing a dance with a partner using hockey sticks and 4th grade will be focusing on line dances. The students have a great time during this unit and it is a lot of fun!
